For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ, for it is the power of God to salvation for everyone who believes, for the Jew first and also for the Greek Romans 1:16

The gospel is for everyone. That’s why what most mattered to Paul was getting the gospel into them – and living a life that demonstrated its authenticity, power, and strength. Remember, even though ministry is directed toward people and takes place among them, it comes from God. Paul knew this, and subsequently, he was into people as God was. Salvation was the mission, but people were his focus. We must never lose sight of that. Paul got them. He truly did, and he loved their souls. His focus was selfless and outward, never inward. Ultimately, Paul’s “modus operandi” was always the same.

God first, others second, and Paul third. He engaged with people. That means Paul saw them, never looking through them or beyond them, and never running from an opportunity. Instead, he ran toward them, engaging with them, and using scripture to cut through their circumstances. He got to the root of the matter – their hearts! He was always looking for an opening, an opportunity to rock their world, tear down walls, and dispel lies of the enemy with the gospel of Christ. By identifying with them and embracing them in their emptiness, he demonstrated Godly compassion for them in the midst of their plight. He never beat around the bush or tried to coerce them, but instead spoke God’s truth in love.

Consequently, Paul was able to point them to what truly mattered – Jesus – who loved them and died for them, period. Therein, he impacted them with the power of the truth of the gospel. Yes, Paul loved them well. Never attending to their every need, mind you, but, indeed, meeting their ultimate spiritual need which is always salvation.

What’s our takeaway? We should imitate Paul as he imitates Christ. No doubt, that’s want he would recommend and he did to the Corinthians. (See 1 Corinthians 11:1.) After all, who are we to pick and choose. Indeed, the gospel is for all who will believe. And ladies, that’s not only good news, it’s the best news ever!

Prayer: Mighty and gracious Lord, make us selfless and outward-focused like Paul. Teach us by your spirit to love others well by your grace. Then, prompt us to speak the truth in love for your ultimate glory and the benefit of your kingdom. Amen and amen.
